About the Colorado Respite Coalition

Who we are

The Colorado Respite Coalition (CRC) is a group of families and community partners who have joined together to support Colorado families who are caring for individuals of all ages with special needs.

We believe that family caregivers need a break and deserve our support. We promote Colorado's current respite care options and facilitate the development of new, safe, affordable, interactive and stimulating respite care choices.

Our Mission

To expand quality respite options for Colorado families.

All Colorado families affected by a special need or disability will have convenient access to a variety of exciting, state of the art, planned and emergency respite options.

What We Do

  • Spearhead efforts to develop and establish new respite programs and identify sustainable respite care services in several parts of the state.
  • Assist families in finding respite care services and resources in the state, with helpful tools such as the Respite Locator.
  • Invest in the expansion of respite services statewide by awarding Community Grants to agencies and Family Respite Vouchers to family caregivers in order to increase access and utilization of respite care
  • Develop and maintain the CRC website for (but not limited to) family caregivers, respite care providers, non-profit organizations, educators, state agencies and policy makers
  • Work with Department of Human Services – State Unit on Aging, Easter Seals Colorado and the Chronic Care Collaborative to plan, develop and implement the Colorado Respite Care Program
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings focused on respite care that includes statewide participation of parents, respite care organizations, providers, state agencies etc.
  • Build a network among providers and human service organizations to maximize respite services
  • Advocate for increased funding streams for respite care e.g. HB 12-1226
  • Educate state agency staff, caregiver groups, for profit and non-profit organizations and policy makers about benefits of respite care and how it preserves the physical and mental health of family caregivers, keeps families and marriages together and prevents abuse and neglect and costly out-of-home placements
  • Work closely with the National ARCH Respite Network and have participated in annual national conferences since 2008
  • Offer trainings for respite providers, caregivers, and employers across Colorado
  • Coordinate local and regional coalition efforts across the state to establish a united respite network in Colorado
